2009 – The Easter Fire

My kids and I move into a new place closer to a new job I am scheduled to start the following week after Easter. It’s Easter morning and I’m cooking. I realize I don’t have butter even though I clearly remember getting it. I check my receipt and the butter is on there.

I load all 3 of my kids into the car and we head to the grocery store to grab some butter. No sooner than we are inside the store my new landlord rings my phone and tells me that our house is on fire!  I gather the kids and we race back to the house. It was a total loss. Burned completely to the ground. We lost everything in that fire. I was devastated and we had to start over.

The next morning (a monday) I had to call the job I was scheduled to start and spoke with a nice lady. I explained to her what happened and that I was currently displaced and asked if I could have an extra week to start the new job so I could get my family settled. We were currently in a hotel that the Red Cross put us up in.

She told me that unfortunately the position would be filled but that she would make a note in the computer for me and that when I was ready and settled to come back into the office and she would find work for me (this was temp service).
