My daughter and I raise my grandson together. She’s a young single mom, working and finishing her college degree. Since his father passed away, she and I co-parent.
Saturday evening he was at her house. She was cooking dinner and she FaceTimed me.
I had literally just laid across the bed in the dark as the phone rang. When I answered she said “hey are you okay?”
I thought she was asking because the screen was dark. So I said “yea I’m fine, I’m just laying in the dark for a minute because my head is hurting really bad.”
She said “well that’s why I’m calling. He was pulling on my shirt saying…call Lola. Lola head is hurt. Call Lola, mama….He was serious about it so I called just in case he was trying to tell me you were hurt.”
He’s just over 2 and a half years old and the level of concern on his face was very clear.
I got up and turned on the light so he could see me, and I assured him that I was okay.
I’ve thought about it off and on since then. It seemed worth mentioning to add here.
