I am 24 years old.
I frequented a specific gas station each morning on my way to work. Very small town. 1 gas station there.
There is a local man with a learning disability that also frequents this gas station.
He’s probably in his 30’s but is fully dependent on his mother who works at this gas station. There is a seating area inside where hot food is cooked and served to locals. I see him sitting there often and he watches me. Not like a creep. Like a sweet friend.
On this particular morning I’m walking into the gas station and the gentleman stops me.
Him: Hey, I know you.
Me: Of course you do. We see each other every morning. We are friends.
Him: I know we are because you used to come take care of me when I was very little. I loved you very much. But you went away.
Me: Well, wherever I went, I’m sure it was really really important business.
Him: No, you died. My Mama told me you would come back though. She said everything we love always finds it’s way back. And here you are.
Me: *not sure what to say*
Okay, well I’m glad I’m back then.
*while trying to leave the conversation*
Him: There’s been a lot of you’s. You’ve come back before you know. I see you in lots of places. You’re the same but also different. The same smell and the same face, but different on the insides. We aren’t allowed to talk about it tho.
Me: Then let’s not talk about it. *smiling* It’s a secret *I wink*.
And he smiles and walks away.
