2018 – The Youngest

I am 38.

My kids are now 19, 16, and 13.

I’ve been remarried now for 4.5 years.

I’m in my home office working. Someone was knocking on my front door. I thought I heard it, wasn’t sure and I kept working. They knock again and I hear it, so I get up to go see. As I turn the corner, my 13yo is also walking to the door and sees me and she freezes! Her face turns white as a ghost.

Me: WHAT’S WRONG? Who’s at the door?

Her whispering: I thought it was you! I heard a knock and I looked out my bedroom window and it was you knocking on the door! I thought you were locked out.

Me: Is there a car?

Her: I didn’t see one. Just a lady. I thought you went to check the mail and locked yourself out. She walked up here, she looks just like you! Same shirt and hair in a bun, EVERYTHING. It’s YOU out there.

Then the ‘lady’ knocked a third time. I don’t have any pants, just an oversized tee. I run to my room and grab some pj bottoms and run back to the living room and snatch open the front door…..no one is there.

I walked all around the outside of the house, out into the street. Nobody. No one is even outdoors on our street. The neighborhood is just empty and silent.

I come back inside and my kid is sitting on the couch completely freaked out. Whatever she saw, shook her to her core.

It concerned me enough that I purchased a camera and have since purchased 3 more.

  1. […] What I will say tho, is that a few weeks later during a very brutal and honest sit-down, this had been happening for the past several years. It started 4 years prior to be exact, which I cannot help but feel traces back to 2018 – The Youngest […]
