Skinwalker?

One evening about 2 weeks ago, I picked my grandson up from my daughter’s house to bring him to mine for the night.

It was about 7pm and dark on the 15 min drive back to my house.

When I turned onto my long, private gravel drive, I flipped my high beams on.

My ‘drive’ is more like a short gravel road. Just under 1/2 mile long. With 8 light poles lining the distance of the road.

Light poles are approx 300 ft apart. And my high beams illuminate about the same distance. From one light pole, I can see ahead to the next light pole.

About midway down the road, just past pole #4, my high beams shine on something in the middle of the road about where pole #5 is located.

I can only describe what I saw as something from a nightmare.

It looked like a deer. But it wasn’t a deer. It sorta moved like a deer, but didn’t move like a deer.

It did not look like anything of this world that I’ve ever seen before. The top of its head was cone shaped. Its deer-like snout was long, and stretched out looking. Its fur was that of a deer. But it was way too large for a deer. And I didn’t see any horns, so not a buck.

It looked like a cross between a deer, a werewolf from a scary movie, and an I don’t even know what.

It was as if it was something else, wearing a deer suit that didn’t quite fit.

It all happened very quickly and it immediately darted across the gravel into the tree line.

Its movement was not swift and graceful like a deer tho. Although it did move fast, the movements were heavy and strong.

I’m familiar with the woods, with animals, and I’ve seen some pretty sus things in my life but never ever anything like this.

I didn’t speak a word about this to anyone. I didn’t write about it. I never brought it up.

Tonight, my daughter and grandson came over around 7pm.

When she gets inside she sits at the kitchen table for a bit while I’m cleaning dishes and she says to me “I am not crazy. And I know you might not believe me, but when we turned onto the road, I put on my high beams and I saw….a monster…in the middle of the road. I don’t know if it was a skinwalker, or some kind of severely deformed inbred deer, but I saw it and it scared the shit out of me.”

It stopped me in my tracks and the hairs on my arms stood up. I told her I’ve seen it too. And we both started discussing what we saw. She mentioned the cone shaped head and how it moved like a deer but didn’t. And the way it ran and moved.

Later when trying to describe it to her sister she said “think mutated deer on The 100 but terrifying.” (Not a show I’m familiar with but they are)

She and I both saw the same thing, at the same time of night, in the same location, two weeks apart.

Whatever it is, it’s not normal.

Throughout their lives and into adulthood when strange things would happen, I always reassured them that while it’s unsettling, they are safe. The visits, the doubles of me, the shadows around their homes, the voices and sounds we all hear, things disappearing and then reappearing in impossible places…you’re still safe.

But not this. Whatever that thing is, I felt fear in my bones when I saw it. And that same fear when she described seeing it.

This sounds very much like when I saw a skinwalker. Except I saw it in broad daylight along a line of trees as I was driving with my mom and grandma. My grandma was watching the road but my mom and I both did double takes and our jaws dropped, just staring at the thing as we slowly passed. She was in the front and I was in the back so at first we didn’t even notice that we both saw it. It was until about a minute after we passed that I noticed she kept looking out her window trying to see behind us. I asked if she just saw that and she said “yes, what the hell was that thing? It looked like a demon animal”. (For reference, she is a very conservative traditional Christian and does not curse nor believe in demons or any kind of supernatural phenomena).

But this beast (the exact word that fit the description), looked very much like you are describing. It was a very large unnatural size for an animal (at least 8-9ft tall), my immediate reaction was thinking it looked like some kind of mutated dog/horse combination except it had massive almost human-like limbs and was on all four. It was almost completely hairless except random patchiness like a severely manged dog. It’s head shape was exactly like you are describing and even though it wasn’t actively walking somewhere, when it moved, they were heavy and strong movements, very decisive. It was an absolutely vile and disgusting thing to look at. My mom has it etched into her mind as well and was as wildly disturbed as I was, agreeing that there was no way that was some kind of animal. It gave off a nasty eery presence and we both had a sick feeling deep in our stomachs for quite a while afterwards, we had no idea why. It just felt like we had just seen something we weren’t supposed to. I get physically nauseous and dizzy when I recall the experience, and I have no idea why.

It was extremely strange we saw it in the daytime, but we were visiting my grandma who lives in the very deep woods of the Allegheny National Forest in PA. We only saw it for about 30 seconds, we were driving pretty slow on a back country road. But the thing seemed to watch us as we passed and the eye contact incited a horrific feeling. I think that’s what still causes me to have such a strong reaction even though this was about 4 years ago. I had heard of skin walkers but never gave much thought to whether they actually exist or not because it never seemed like it would be relevant to me! But the second I laid eyes on that deformed and haunting creature, the immediate thought was “oh f-!! That’s a literal skinwalker” like fitting others descriptions to a T!! It was massive though it had a somewhat hunched back, and you could feel the energy radiating from it. Sorry for the long post, but you just described something so wildly similar to what I saw 4 years ago in the middle of the woods. I recently moved out to the area and I have to say, I’m not thrilled knowing there at least one of those things just wondering out there.

    1. I have read people talking about these before. They aren’t animals or humans.

      They are always crossing woiss/ditches.
