2011 – The Furniture

A bit after  we moved into our new place after the fire, I went to a local ‘rent to own’ furniture store and got us a living room furniture set.

At this time I’d been making monthly payments on the set for about a year. One afternoon, I went into the store to make my monthly payment. As I walk into the store and the doorbell chimes, the lady behind the counter looks up at me approaching  and says “Did you forget something? What can I do for you?”

Not being sure what she meant I just said “I’m here to make a payment.”

She sort of stares at me for a second then looks over to a guy who is also behind the counter with her and they both look perplexed. She then says “uh, you just came in a little while ago and paid the account off in full.”

I’m just standing there looking like a dumb ass and don’t know what to say. I’m about to tell her she has mistaken me for someone else, but she turns her monitor around towards me and says ‘see, cash. Paid in full, you’re all set.”

The only thing I know to do is just ask for a print out of the receipt in case they call me later saying I owe a bill. I took my receipt and walked out. Never heard from them again.

Your most recent posts brought me here, but catching up, I realize I’ve read most of your stories on Facebook groups! I’m sorry the comments tend to have so much doubt and hate. Your life is fascinating! Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thank you for being here! The doubt and hate comments suck, but honestly I just roll with it. If I have the time and energy, I reply as cordially as I can. But at the end of the day, not everything is for everybody. 💜
